SRINAGAR:Yatra was suspended from shortest Baltal track due to slippery conditions following rain, while it was going on from traditional Pahalgam route to cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
Meanwhile, 14,488 pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus, had darshan of the Ice-Shivlingam yesterday till last evening. With this, a total of 2,18,053 yatris had paid obeisance at the shrine since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage from July 2. A Yatra Control Room (YCR) official told UNI that fresh batches of pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps at 0700 hrs.
“Normally, we are allowing pilgrims to leave the base camps for holy cave at 0500 hrs every day, “he said but due to overnight rain, the yatra was delayed by two hours. However, due to fresh rain, yatra from Baltal was stopped as the track had again become slippery.
Yatris, who left this the base camp, were also later stopped, he said. He said yatris will be allowed only after there is improvement in the weather.
However, fresh batch of yatries, including women and sadhus, left the Nunwan Pahalgam base camp today at 0700 hrs, after a delay of two hours.
The yatries had left for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route, he said, adding that some of them will have night halt there while others will continue their journey towards next halting station on foot. (AGENCIES)
