SRINAGAR : Yatra to Amarnath Cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas was resumed after a delay of two hours this morning due to slippery tracks following overnight rain.
A Yatra Control Room (YCR) official told that fresh batches of pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps at 0700 hrs.
”Normally, we are allowing pilgrims to leave the base camps for holy cave at 0500 hrs every day, he said, but due to overnight rain, the yatra was delayed by two hours.
He informed that exact number of pilgrims leaving base camps for the cave shrine today would be known only after 1130 hrs, as the gates would remain open till that time only. He, however, added that no fresh yatri was allowed from Jammu today due to bad weather.
Both the tracks were now safe for undertaking the pilgrimage. Meanwhile, 14,488 pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus had darshan of the ice-Shivlingam yesterday till last evening. With this a total of 2,18,053 yatris had paid obeisance at the shrine since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage from July 2. (AGENCIES)
