SRINAGAR, July 19: Days after Rubaiya Sayeed, sister of Peoples Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti identified Yasin Malik as her abductor in 1989, Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone today said that Malik deserves a fair trial.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a party function here, Lone said that Malik deserves a fair trial.
“He should be given a fair trial. Justice cannot be a one-sided affair,” he said.
To a question about identification of Malik and three others by Rubaiya Sayeed in the special CBI Court Jammu, Lone said, “it is their decision, but those getting people identified and indicted don’t have the right to talk about reconciliation and dialogue”.
“They have every right to identify and indict those involved. But those identifying and indicting people have no moral right to talk about reconciliation and dialogue. Priyanka Gandhi even forgave the killers of her own father,” Lone said.
Lone was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organized by Peoples Conference to welcome former deputy director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Bashir Chalkoo from Uri into the party.
He joined PC along with his workers today and was welcomed into the party by PC president Sajad Gani Lone at his residence in Church lane, Srinagar.
While welcoming Dr. Bashir Chalkoo into the PC, Sajad said that the entry of professionals like Dr Bashir into Peoples Conference indicates the positive impact this party has made among the people of J&K and that PC would hugely benefit from Chalkoo’s experience in public life.
Criticizing previous governments for considerably failing to realize the promises made to the people of Uri, Sajad said that Uri has been totally ignored on the developmental front by the previous regimes.
“Peoples Conference will usher in a new era of economic and infrastructure development for this region and that the concerns of people of Uri would be addressed on priority if the party comes to power. We will make all efforts to develop Uri as tourist resorts to tap the tourist potential of this virgin valley and make Uri into a hub of tourism”, he added.
