POONCH, Mar 10: Expressing concern over backwardness and under-development of twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, senior leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Yash Pal Sharma demanded opening of proposed IIM in this mountainous region.
Addressing a public meeting here today, Yash Pal Sharma said that Poonch is most deserving place for opening IIM because this district has been ignored in the field of education by the successive State Governments.
“I appeal both Centre and State Government to sanction the proposed IIM at Poonch which is best suited place for opening of this prestigious institute”, he said and pointed out that with the opening of Mughal Road, IIM at Poonch would be beneficial for students of both Jammu and Kashmir regions, respectively.
Regretting that successive State Governments have deliberately ignored this district, Sharma said that already Government has opened university campuses in most of the districts but not even a single step has been taken to spread education in Poonch district which is situated on the Line of Control (LoC).
Highlighting problems being faced by the residents of Poonch, Sharma appealed to the new Government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to expedite the process of providing relief to the people who were badly affected by the floods of September 2014.
He regretted that for the last nearly six months, nothing concrete has been done to properly rehabilitate the flood affected people.
