JAMMU, Sept 22: State Vigilance Organization (SVO) today booked Executive Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer and other officials of the Irrigation Department.
An official spokesman said that during verification into the allegations relating to payment of transportation charges at exorbitant rates for carriage of departmental material by Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Rajouri, it came to fore that Girdhari Lal, then Executive Engineer Rajouri, Sheraz Ahmed (AEE), the then Store Officer Rajouri, B C Raina, the then store-keeper and Mohd Khalil Mir, the then Head Draftsman Rajouri, entered into a criminal conspiracy among themselves during the year 2009-10 and by abusing their official positions they have shown excess payment made to the tune of Rs 9,75,457 for carriage of departmental material from Jammu to Rajouri.
However, the excess payment was actually not made to the concerned private parties and instead misappropriated thereby causing wrongful loss to the State exchequer to the tune of Rs 9,75,457 and corresponding wrongful gain to themselves.
Based on the outcome of verification, Vigilance has registered a case under Section 5(1) (d) read with Section 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 161/120-B RPC against these officers and officials.
