BENGALURU: Riding on skipper Mithali Raj’s 42, and some late order heroics by Harmanpreet Kaur, Indian eves posted 163 runs against Bangladesh in the opening match of the ICC Women World T20 at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here today.

This was India’s highest score in T20 internationals, surpassing the 151 for five against the same opponent in 2014.   Put in to bat first, the hosts started off on a positive note, with openers Vellaswamy Vanitha(38) and Mithali slamming 62 runs in just seven overs. India raced to the 50-run mark before the end of powerplay.

But just when Vanitha looked good for a good score, Nahida bowled her to give the visitors first wicket.

Following her wicket, the in-form Smriti Mandana came to the crease but failed to disturb the scorecard after being trapped in-front off Fahima Khatun for a duck, leaving India 63 for two. (AGENCIES)
