New semester of Chinese Varsities postponed

SRINAGAR, Feb 19: Ten students who went for 15 day quarantine in Delhi after their evacuation from Wuhan province of China on Feb 1 reached Srinagar today and were sent for two weeks home quarantine taking the number of people who arrived in J&K with China travel history to 94 while 23 students are still in New Delhi.
Ten Kashmiri students out 34 who were evacuated from Wuhan on February 1 arrived at Srinagar Airport today. They spent two weeks in quarantine at ITPB base in New Delhi set up by Union Ministry of Health.
Out of these 10 students, three each were from Srinagar and Kupwara and one each from Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla. One student arrived yesterday. They were sent to their homes for 2 weeks quarantine in ambulances. The medical staff from respective district will monitor their health condition on daily basis.
So far, 94 people including 88 students arrived in Jammu and Kashmir and 23 students are still in New Delhi.
In the meantime, Chinese University had asked the students who left the country after Coronavirus outbreak to return to the Varsities immediately or they will lose their admission status. But with the intervention of the Union Health Ministry, the Varsities have now postponed the new semesters.
In a message sent by the Secretary Health Government of India, Preti Sudhan, to Financial Commissioner Health J&K, Atul Dulloo, it has been stated that after her intervention and meeting with Chinese Ambassador the issue of the students was resolved.
The students were asked by their respective universities to join back or they would lose their admission status. “Our request has been responded to favorably. The Chinese Embassy has written that State Council of China has decided to postpone the new semester of the universities including Southwest University. The students will be notified by their respective Universities accordingly”, she said in the message.
