Writing the “destiny” with India

Shiban Khaibri
Did the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti mince any words when in her clear cut and unambiguous statement in the state legislature; she referred to sealing of the destiny of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union of India in 1947. She did not, as she was forthright. We used to read in our school days, “Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved.” The choice of the people was made through and by the then ruler Maharaja Hari Singh and the “seal” over the years has become more irrevocable and inevitable. She made it clear not only to the “mainstream” political parties and the anti India separatist leaders, the neophyte politicians but even to   “Pakistan needs to understand that.”
There can be no qualms about her saying that the situation in Kashmir had been “inherited from the past” and was not there since 2014 when both the governments at the centre as well as in the state took over. It was her hard hitting speech to those in particular who believed in rhetoric of opportunities to play to the galleries and fish in the troubled waters. Questioning those who questioned the decision of 1947, she emphatically stressed upon the fact that the people of Jammu and Kashmir did not support the partition in 1947 and joined their fate with the secular India. “Let us go back to our roots “, she said and advised Pakistan, “the need to understand that.” Interestingly meaning more than what can be inferred, she told that the beauty of secular India could be appreciated in that, at the time of the accession of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the consent of the “public representative” Sheikh Abdullah was sought. It is all about state politics that when the CM was making this statement, the opposition benches were empty as Leader of the Opposition had called for the boycott of her speech.
She made it clear that not Pakistan, in anyway whatsoever, but “only from India, we will get everything” . The evil intentions of Pakistan and its notorious ISI and the military hierarchy are not willing to smoothen the relations with this country, found a veiled mention in her speech by saying, “Pakistan did not reciprocate to the Lahore trip of Prime Minister Modi in early 2016.” Though politically there can be differences with her assertion in describing the reasons in respect of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly as “most empowered” in the country but she, under the spoilt circumstances in the valley for which the dispensation immediately prior to 1990 should be held responsible, she made it clear that there was no coercion or any type of undue influence exerted on the state government from the central government. She elaborated the point by citing the instance of how the GST was implemented in the entire nation at once excepting this state where it was implemented only after a proper and full debate in the Assembly.
Needless to add , the clear cut acerbic stand by the Chief Minister on the accession rhetoric must silence those even in the mainstream. They  surely must eat the hat  who were casting doubts about the stand of CM who is projected to be soft towards accession baiters. The cause of concern is that those valley centric mainstream political parties who are expected to strengthen the Indian interests in the valley and give a fillip to anti terror and pro India and nationalist activities are ensconced in the mess and fragile scenario in the valley. Even if somewhere away from the troubled districts of the valley,  they hold a “rally ” or two, excepting spewing venom against the apparition of the RSS and the BJP and sowing fear, doubts, apprehensions and the dismay among the audience , they practically discuss nothing and thus are inflicting  more harm than any good. Do they do it intentionally for votes is  left to be judged which is no difficult to decipher.
Agreed, there is not everything very praiseworthy with the PDD – BJP coalition as in the dispensation of better governance, this Government has been found wanting in on many fronts but to do nothing by the mainstream parties proving as antithesis to the self destructive path chosen by indoctrinated and frenzied young people was proving dodgiest in fighting terror related violence and associated political brinkmanship. In the melee, the terror mongers are getting emboldened and find an alibi of a cause to take to gun. Is there all-round condemnation and denunciation in full measure from all patriotic forces against the violence or against the perpetrators of violence in Kashmir?
“A poor Headmaster’s son,” was what many a Lutyenjourno describedBurhanWani in debates, casting doubts about and aspersions on the arms of law and procedure in the society to nab him . When to settle political scores or to express resentment over not getting undue importance to which such people from the elite intellectual sections used to be before, terror and terror activities are eulogized,  it becomes difficult to fight this affliction of terrorism. How can those propounding “poor Headmaster’s son ” theory account for those who are both highly literate, with good economic and family  background but joining terror ranks . What motivates them to do so ? The mischievous theory of “poverty” or illiteracy are motivated and laced with deceiving the people and the nation. The recent reports of a Kashmiri PhD scholar from Aligarh Muslim University joining the terror group, though a  deep shock to his parents and nearest relatives,  has been an occasion for the HizbulMujahideen  to “celebrate”as its Chief is on record having said, “Even the educated youth were joining the (so called) struggle for freedom”. Just see the mental trauma of his parents and his sister as they are sure about his fate unless he   responds to his near ones to return to the mainstream.  Pursuing a Doctorate in Geology and doing fine, was spotted holding an AK 47 just three days prior to his scheduled visit to his home in Kupwara Kashmir. This gory incident must be an issue of introspecting by those who intentionally or for vote bank considerations condone such acts if not justify itbrazenly. Also for those who try to wrap them in the martyrs’ classification. From books and library , from seminars and debates , from research and learning , those who prefer to choose the suicidal demeaning and contemptuous but fatal path of terror must open the eyes of those champions of Muslims who do not get fatigued over crying discrimination with and neglect of Muslims in the field of education especially the higher one.
Who is ensnaring them ? Who is succeeding in weaning them away from the torch of education to the dark gutters of terror and radicalization? Is there the role of social media as well ? Leaders of some National Parties are hobnobbing with such organizations which have links with hard core communal and radicalized groups like the PFI and the SDPI  like in Karnatkaand are spreading canards against the democratically elected government at the centre as also floating mischievous deceptions like Hindu terror which besides bailing out Pakistan in its terror proxy war against this country, is creating suspicion and uncertainty among  the largest minority of the country making space for  prospective swelling of the terror ranks from amongst the likes of the AMU PhD scholar. The need of the hour is to act firmly and decisively against the enemies of peace, prosperity, sovereignty and national integrity of the country.
