World Tourism Day

Sir,
This has reference to the World Tourism Day which was observed throughout the State a couple of days ago.
The theme of the year’s ‘World Tourism Day’ is Tourism and Water. There  seems no relation between water and tourism. But that is not true as tourism and water are inter related and has a great significance for the people associated with Tourism industry. In absence of water there is no scope for tourism. It is water bodies that make tourist places more attractive.
However, one says it with disappointment that water bodies in Jammu have an existential threat as these are not maintained properly. Mansar Lake, Surinsar Lake are among the few water bodies that are popular among people here. These are frequented by school children, holidayers and pilgrims for recreational and spiritual purposes. These water bodies are shrinking rapidly as they are not being take care of by the authorities and the people who visit them.
The Tourism Department should, therefore, embark on  protecting these water bodies without further delay otherwise there will be nothing left to celebrate about.
Yours etc…
