JAMMU, May 17: World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was celebrated here today.
The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day” by holding a seminar on theme topic “Big Data for Big Impact”, which was attended by a large number of engineers from various departments and organizations.
Dr Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor of the Cluster University Jammu and Aashutosh Bajaj, Circle Business Head, Reliance Jio were chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Five papers on the theme topic were presented by Er SC Thukral, FIE, Er Ranjeev Sawhney, MIE, Er Sewa Ram, MIE, Er Supinder Jeet Singh, AMIE and Er Rajesh Kumar Angural.
Er Braj B Sharma, FIE, Former Chairman presided over the function.
Er BL Rawal, MIE, Honorary Secretary presented the welcome address, conducted the proceedings of the seminar and proposed the vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) celebrated the “World Telecommunication and Information Society Day” (WTISD-17) on the theme “Big Data for Big Impact” under the auspices of the student chapter of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), USA.
Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion.
Major General (Retd) Prof SK Sharma, Director Academics, MIET delivered the welcome address.
Prof Ankur Gupta, Director MIET delivered the keynote address on Big Data wherein he shared real-life examples of the relevance and impact of big-data from the US Presidential Elections to recommend systems for influencing online buying to healthcare and allied fields.
Prof Anju Bhasin and the other dignitaries released the IEEE, USA Women in Engineering (WIE) manifesto and inaugurated the IEEE WIE Affinity Group at MIET which is the first such affinity group in north India. The group will support women students and faculty at MIET in technological pursuits.
Later, a panel discussion was held among senior experts including Randhir Singh, DGM, BSNL, Gaurav Rastogi, AGM, Aircel, Ashish Dubey from Bharti Infratel, Rajat Mahajan from Bharti Infratel and Sunil Jawahar Wali from Airtel, which was moderated by Taru Mahajan, Head ECE Department at MIET.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Neha Gupta.
Surbhi Mahajan and Dr Radhika Khanna from ECE were the conveners for the event.
The inaugural session was followed by ABYANTRix, a first of its kind technical event series that included inter college live project competition and poster presentation based on the theme of the WTISD-17.
