JAMMU, Mar 24: World TB Day was observed across the State today.
World TB Day was observed by District Tuberculosis Centre Jammu at Auditorium Hall CD Hospital here. Health Officials namely Deputy Director Schemes Dr VP Sharma, State TB Officer Dr Sujata Sharma, HoD Chest Disease Hospital Dr Rahul Gupta, Senior Medical Officer ART Centre GMC Jammu Dr VK Verma, Senior Consultant CDH Dr Sanjeev Kapoor, WHO Consultant Jammu Dr Sanjay Arora, MO DTC Dr Ila Gupta and Dr Varinder Trisal attended the programme, which was conducted by MO CDH Dr SS Sambyal.
District Tuberculosis Officer Jammu Dr Kamini Gupta presented the welcome address and briefed about the achievement and work done in the field of eliminating tuberculosis disease. State TB Officer Dr Sujata Sharma highlighted the theme of this year ‘Unite to end TB’ and stressed that it is need of the hour to work unitedly to eradicate this evil from the society.
While speaking, Deputy Director Health (Schemes) Jammu appealed the participants to take pledge for ‘Unite to end TB’.
Later, prizes among the participants of symposium competition and certificates to the best workers were present.
In the end, vote of thank was presented by Dr Varinder Trisal.
District Tuberculosis Control Society, Kathua in collaboration with NSS Unit of GDC for Women Kathua observed World TB Day. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Bharat Bhushan was the chief guest, while Principal, GDC for Women Kathua, Dr Satinder Singh was the guest of honour. District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Kavi Raj presented the welcome address and exhorted upon the principles of WHO’s End TB Campaign by protecting human right ethics and equity. On the occasion Dr Bharat Bhushan ADC Kathua asked the students to be active messengers of the campaign. On the occasion success stories of TB patients were shared with students and multi drug resistant and extremely drug resistant survivors of TB were felicitated. NSS volunteers of GDC for Women College Kathua presented a skit on TB awareness. A rally of nursing students was also flagged by ADC Kathua from District Tuberculosis Society Kathua, which culminated at GDC for Women Kathua. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof Madhvi Parasher NSS Programme Officer of GDC for Women Kathua. Prof Umesh Chander Kailoo, Prof Rakesh Singh, Prof Usha Devi, Dr Amita Dua, Prof Shakun Mahajan, Prof Raj Kumari, Prof Shivani Sharma along with large number of students attended the programme.
A radio slot of about 20 seconds on TB symptoms and facilities is being broadcasted daily in Hindi and Dogri languages on alternate days from local station from November 2016 which will last upto April 2017. As a part of continuous awareness activity, about 1 lakh urban mobile subscribers have been sent about 1 lakh TB awareness messages (SMS) of district Kathua in groups of about 10,000 messages per week.
Government Degree College (GDC) Doda organized a programme on the eve of World Tuberculosis Day, to make public awareness about the global epidemic of TB and efforts to eliminate the disease. The function was presided over by Prof Vashali Sharma, HoD Mathematics attended by all faculty members of the college and students of the host institution. Students of the host institution namely Irshad Ahmed, Komal Sumbriya, Arti Rathore and Rabia Kousar of 4th Semester delivered awareness lectures. Dr Manish Thakur, Lecturer Department of Zoology in his detailed presentation highlighted prevalence of the disease.
World Tuberculosis Day was observed at Kishtwar. The programme was inaugurated by Ghulam Nabi Balwan DDC Kishtwar, who was the chief guest on the occasion. An impressive rally was taken out from District Tuberculosis Centre Kishtwar, which passed through various areas of the district.
Dr Wajid Hussain, DTO Kishtwar gave a brief description of Tuberculosis and importance of DOTS under RNTCP to cure this disease in presence of school children, teachers and guests. Officials of health department attended the programme.
Ramisht College of Education organized a programme on the World TB Day, wherein staff and students took part.
Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, today observed the World Tuberculosis Day and held an awareness program at the Institute of Hotel Management at Raj Bagh here. Speaking on the occasion, DC Srinagar Dr Farooq Ahmed Lone, who was the chief guest, highlighted various aspects of this disease and programmes initiated by the Government to eradicate it. Senior doctors spoke at length about causes, symptoms, medical treatment and prevention of TB. The function was attended by Director Health Services, CMO Srinagar, Deputy Director SKIMS, STO Kashmir, senior doctors, students, teachers and many others.
Earlier, the students from the Institute of Hotel Management, Rajbagh, and Kashmir Public School, Harwan, jointly held a rally in Rajbagh to create awareness about the disease.
In order to commemorate the World TB Day, District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Mir Altaf Ahmed, flagged a candle light march from CMOs office to Main Bus Stand Budgam. The event was organized by the District TB Society Budgam. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC stressed on the need to conduct awareness about the disease not just by symbolic observance of the day but also by awareness at grassroots levels. District Tuberculosis Officer, Budgam, Dr Adfar Yaseen said that TB is still a stigma for many people especially women and as a result they are not coming forward, which is proving a big hurdle in its eradication. She added that with the help of counseling and awareness programmes, many lives can be saved.
