JAMMU, Sept 25: “World Pharmacist Day” was celebrated today with great enthusiasm by Jammu Kashmir Government Pharmacist Association (JKGPA) Jammu and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Pharmacy.
To celebrate the Day, a function was organized by JKGPA Jammu. The chief guest of the function was Sham Lal Sharma (former Health Minister of J&K) while Director Health Services Jammu Dr Rajeev Kumar Sharma also graced the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Sushil Sudan (president, Jammu Kashmir Medical Employee Federation and member Pharmacy Council of India) threw light on the achievements of Pharmacists Association while bringing amendment in PCI Act 1948 Section (32-C).
On the occasion, all the participants took oath for donating organs so that even after their death, they remain alive. Retired pharmacists were also honored on the occasion for their services which they have rendered for Health Department and played a remarkable role for implementing WHO programme.
Meanwhile, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Pharmacy organized a function to celebrate World Pharmacists Day in collaboration with State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K. The guests of the event were Dr Sanjeev Puri (Joint Director, SOTTO), Dr Irfan Lone (Transplant Coordinator, SOTTO) and Anshu Sharma (Consultant Media, SOTTO).
On the occasion, students of RGIP presented speeches, slogans and took oath to promote awareness about organ donation and the vital role pharmacists play in the process. Abhimanyu Katoch (MD, RGIP) highlighted the importance of Organ Donation and efforts being laid by the team members of SOTTO (J&K) in promoting this noble cause among the masses.
The event followed with the Organ Donation pledge read by Anshu Sharma.
