World Book Day was observed on April23, 2017 across the world and various organisations and libraries organised events to mark this occasion.But unfortunately, the reading habit in modern people is vanishing with every passing day.We must remember that books are the mine of ideas and thoughts of great men and women who have lived on this planet since the dawn of civilization. There are many classics written by writers from different parts of the world in different languages in different times of history, which contain pearls of wisdom delivered by the best of divinely inspired men and women and which will live on in our minds as long as the civilization lasts.These masterpieces of literature help us in appreciating various aspects of life and give us a glimpse of various characters and their roles in the society.A book is always worth its price and it is a feast to read the literary masterpieces.
These books need to be read and digested to have a glimpse of different aspects of life.Children should also be motivated to go through these books to understand different aspects of life to master the techniques to tide over difficulties and face challanges that life poses.These masterpieces also help us to enjoy life to its full and make the optimum use of time and resources and lead life in a purposeful manner.To write, you need to read and to read you need to think, reflect, criticize and wonder.Thus, reading literature develops our imagination, which helps us in being creative.It helps us to become nicer and smarter as we see life through others point of view.It helps us to face failure.We read about characters facing failure and passing through ups and downs, which help us to face failure in a better way.Literature also helps us to know about lands which we have not seen and being empathatic.Literature of a particular period of time is reflection of the culture and traditions of life and it helps us to understand the social, political and economic conditions of those times which forced or motivated the writers to pen down a particular story, novel, play or any other piece of art.Therfore, we must read literature to know and appreciate the cultures and traditions of the different parts of the world.
