REASI, Jan 23: A one-day workshop on organic farming was held in the meeting hall of Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra.
The workshop was organized by Shrine Board in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Reasi.
Dr C Srinivasan, a renowned scientist was the resource person. He gave a detailed presentation on different aspects of organic farming in the country. Presenting an audio-video presentation on use of panch Gavaya, aerobic and anaerobic decomposition of Mule dung, he gave an account of cultivation of vegetables in baskets and small crates.
Emphasis of the program was on use of mule dung as an alternative organic fertilizer for use in and around Katra because of its high production through mules. He said mule dung on the old track of Vaishno Devi route is also a big problem and by its proper decomposition, it can be used for Agriculture purpose. He added that decomposed Mule dung manure contains almost sufficient nutrients needed for the optimum growth and production of crops.
The program was organized under the guidelines of Simrandeep Singh, CEO, SMVDSB Katra and was attended by Vivek Verma, ACEO, SMVDSB, besides others.
