JAMMU, June 9: A workshop of drawing, painting and performing arts is being organised at Kala Kendra, Bikram Chowk, here.
The workshop was today inaugurated by Prof Rita Jitendra, former secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Soujanya Sharma, Secretary, Kala Kendra & Director, Local Bodies was the guest of honour on this occasion.
The workshop is being conducted by Jammu & Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts (JKCCA), Jammu in collaboration with Kala Kendra, Jammu. Thirty children are participating in this workshop. The scheduled workshop will conclude on June 22, 2016. T S Batra, former Principal Institute of Music & Fine Arts, Jammu, Jang S. Verman, artist & columnist on art & culture, O P Shakir, writer, Ashok Mehra and Kanwal Nain Bhan well known artists were present in the inaugural ceremony.
Welcoming the guests and participants, OP Sharma, director, JKCCA said that the centre started this first ever such workshop at Kala Kendra with a target to give training in various skills used in drawing and painting and performing arts to thirty young boys.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof Rita Jitendra said that vacations would be better used by the children by learning skills of art and performing arts. She said that one should do things he/ she wants to do and sustain it for a long. She added that once, one is involved in any activity he or she should work on it by heart.
Soujanya Sharma said that the skill of drawing is a basic in all professional fields. He said that the young boys and girls must acquire proficiency in the skills in the activities that are associated with our day to day life. He emphasized that additional skills always pay in life.
The practice sessions were taken by the participants under the technical guidance of the experts engaged for the purpose.
