Workshop on ‘Cyber Security’ held at JU

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 7: A two- day workshop on "Latest Trend and Challenges in Cyber Security", organized by Department of Computer Science and IT, University of Jammu, conluded here today. Dr Anup Girdhar, CEO and founder of Sedulity Solutions and Technologies, New Delhi, was the resource person for the workshop. Prof Rahul Gupta, Director HRDC was the chief guest during the inaugural ceremony and Prof Vinay Chouhan, Dean Placement was chief guest at the valedictory session. The workshop gave a lot of academic and research exposure to the students of Computer Science about latest technology, tools and techniques related to cyber security. Dr Anup Girdhar conducted interactive workshop sessions where he demonstrated different techniques in online and real time environments. Prof Lalit Sen Sharma, Head Department of Computer Science and IT, JU, said that the department is regularly organizing conferences, invited talks, workshops in different area of computer science. Prof Pawanesh Abrol, coordinator of the workshop, explained the importance of cyber security in today's era where most of the financial, social activities are done via internet. This has also led to various network intrusions and unlawful activities like hacking, cyber bullying, phishing, online banking frauds etc, he added. More than 60 participants from main campus and off-site campuses of the University at Kathua, Bhaderwah and Ramnagar attended the workshop. Prominent among those present in the valedictory session, included Prof Vinod Sharma, Jasbir Singh, Dr Shubhnandan Singh Jamwal, members of faculty, technical staff and research scholars.
