JAMMU, June 28: A one day ‘State Training Workshop on Internet Safety’ was organized by Consumer Voice, New Delhi and supported by Google India, in collaboration with the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, here today.
On the occasion, Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor JU, was the chief guest while Registrar, Prof Keshav Sharma was the guest of honour. Mubassir Latifi, SSP (Crime) and Mohd Yasin Kichloo, SSP (Vigilance) were the special invitees for the workshop.
Prof R D Sharma said that in view of the fast growing and liberalizing economy, the Consumer awareness has become significantly important and consumers need guidance to make informed choice in the products and services available and hence the need for such trainings.
Hemant Upadhaya, Advisor, Consumer Voice, said that at present, more than 35 crore individuals are online for one or the other purpose and hence they need to be aware of the good and bad of the internet handling.
Piyush, Publicity expert, Google, and the Resource person for today’s workshop, talked about the basic tools of safe internet handling via androids and notebooks such as having a unique password for each of the email and online banking accounts.
Mubassir Latifi urged upon the stakeholders to be more vigilant in sharing any personal information related to online transactions.
Yasin Kichloo opined for strict legislation to make the internet a safer environment for young people.
Sparsh Sharma from SMVDU made a practical demonstration on hacking of email accounts.
Prof Keshav Sharma assured that university will take all steps to impart such trainings from time to time amongst the students and society.
Earlier, Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Head, Department of Botany, JU presented a formal welcome address.
