JAMMU, Dec 18: The seven-day national workshop on Indian Scripts began today at the Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu.
Dr Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, Jammu University, inaugurated the workshop, which is being organized in collaboration with Millennium India Education Foundation, New Delhi. She hoped that the workshop will be fruitful for the participants and will encourage the discipline among young scholars.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof Ved Kumari Ghai, who traced the history of different scripts prevalent in Northern India. She emphasized on learning of various scripts, especially Sharda, Dogri and Gurumukhi.
Prof Ram Pratap Vedalankar, while speaking on the occasion, stressed on the significance of endangered scripts like Sharda.
Earlier, Prof Kedar Nath Sharma, Head of the Sanskrit Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts presented welcome address.
Prof. Ramnika Jalali conducted proceedings of the function. Prof Sushma Devi is the organizing secretary of the workshop.
