JAMMU, Nov 5: Leighton Welspun, the construct company engaged in Chenani-Nashri tunnel project, has submitted a list of 700 workers who want to resume work but fear threat to their personal safety and security.
The list having signatures of nearly 400 employees of the company and another 300 contract workforce, has been submitted to the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Police authorities.
These workers and employees had approached the company and confirmed that they did not want to continue striking work. They have signed a memorandum stating that they will resume work, provided an assurance is given on their personal safety due to threats being made against them on commencement of work.
The current situation involving disruption of pace and progress of the project has been instigated by third parties who influence the workers to go on illegal strike under undue pressure, said a statement issued by the Leighton Welspun.
As reported earlier, a number of workers engaged in Chenani-Nashri tunnel project, had gone on flash strike from October 26. They were demanding reinstatement of 9 terminated workers and implementation of Labour laws.
