Word ‘Governor’ to be construed as ‘LG’ in J&K Universities Act

JAMMU, Mar 13: Decks were cleared for approval of various pending matters in both the Universities of Jammu and Kashmir as the Government has finally issued an order, according to which any reference in the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969 to the word ‘Governor shall be construed as reference to the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of J&K.
The order in this regard for `Removal of Difficulties’ was issued in view of the re-organization of Jammu and Kashmir State into two Union Territories.
Pertinent to mention that in the Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act , 1969, there is reference to the Governor of erstwhile State of J&K and after enactment of J&K Re-organization 2019, the post of Governor was replaced by the Lt Governor. It led to holding up various decisions of both the universities.
Now, according to the newly issued order, called the Kashmir and Jammu Universities (Removal of difficulties) Order, 2020; any reference in the Principal Act to the words ‘Governor of Jammu and Kashmir’ shall be construed as reference to the `Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir’.
