NEW DELHI, Apr 14 : Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday said Dr B R Ambedkar gave the nation a new direction and vision, laying a strong foundation for nation-building, and asserted that his ideas continue to guide humanity even today.
Addressing a programme titled “From Social Justice to National Development: Viksit Bharat 2047 Based on the Principles of Dr. Ambedkar” organised by the National Commission for Scheduled Castes on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Birla said the principles of equality, justice and social transformation enshrined by Babasaheb are remembered with gratitude by the nation.
He observed that if the nation and society wish to instil courage, self-confidence, determination and a spirit of service in the coming generations, they must adopt Babasaheb’s ideals. He said that through his life, Babasaheb proved that regardless of the challenges or hardships faced, a strong resolve and a clear goal lead to success.
He further noted that despite being born into a modest family, Babasaheb made education his greatest strength. He attained the highest levels of education globally, yet chose the path of serving the nation over personal comfort, Birla added.
Highlighting Ambedkar’s vision for women’s empowerment, the Lok Sabha speaker said equal rights and opportunities for women are essential for national progress, and added that women’s participation from panchayats to Parliament reflects Ambedkar’s vision of inclusive development.
Birla said ensuring dignity and opportunity for the most marginalised sections of society remained central to Ambedkar’s worldview, and stressed the need to spread his ideas through education and empower future generations.
He also noted Ambedkar’s contribution beyond the Constitution, describing him as a great economist whose ideas on India’s financial system, industry, labour rights, energy, irrigation and governance remain relevant even today.
Recalling the framing of the Constitution, Birla said Ambedkar ensured that every provision reflected the future needs of the country and guaranteed equality, voting rights and justice for all citizens.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha speaker also attended the unveiling of the “Baal Samvidhan Pustak Shrinkhala” at the Constitution Club in Delhi, and said every child should be introduced to the Constitution early so that future generations grow up aware of their rights and duties and committed to constitutional values.
