NEW DELHI, Aug 27: Women journalist members of Indian Women’s Press Core (IWPC) New Delhi today hosted a get-together cum interaction with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh at the IWPC premises here.
The interaction, covered a wide range of current issues of national importance and departments / portfolios under the charge of Dr Jitendra Singh.
While welcoming Dr Jitendra Singh, President IWPC T.K. Rajyalakshmi expressed delight over his having accepted the invitation. She said, with a wide range of departments handled by the Minister, as also his interesting profile, the members of the IWPC have been eagerly looking forward to hold an interactive meet with him.
In an interaction lasting over one-and-a-half hour, Dr Jitendra Singh responded to a wide range of issues dealing with the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Northeast, ISRO Space Programme, India’s Nuclear Programme and issues related to Jammu & Kashmir. He also responded to some questions related to his work as a medical professional in capacity as a Diabetologist / Diabetes Specialist.
Referring to Northeast, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the region has undergone revolutionary transformation which is to be seen to be believed. He gave special credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had visited the region nearly 30 times in just four years, which is possibly more than the number of visits by all the past Prime Ministers put together.
In relation to DoPT, Dr Jitendra Singh allayed all apprehensions about the RTI Act and reiterated that the Modi Government is firmly committed to ensure transparency and accountability in governance. He also justified Lateral Entry into Civil Services / IAS and assured that it will be streamlined with a definite procedure in place.
In the context of Jammu & Kashmir, Dr Jitendra Singh said, he did not wish to be trapped in a debate on an issue which is subjudice, but added that a wider issue for all of us to understand is that even in 2018, there were certain sections in polity and society which are vehemently opposed to equal rights for women.
Dr Jitendra Singh also responded to queries regarding his research work on “Stress Diabetes” among displaced Kashmiri Pandit community.
