Women equally conscious about their democratic right in Srinagar

SRINAGAR :  Women are equally conscious about their democratic right which was witnessed during the fourth phase of polling in 8 assembly segments in the Srinagar  district.
At some polling booths women outnumbered men to cast their votes.
A UNI correspondent who visited a number of polling booths in Srinagar saw women, wearing their traditional dress “Pheran” waiting in queues to exercise their democratic right.
At polling station Rambagh-B, 37, out of 1086 voters, 129 votes had been polled during the first 90 minutes.    However, women had outnumbered men there as out of polled votes, 70 were women.
Long queues of women voters were waiting outside the polling station.
Similarly at Natipora 54 and 45-A, the ratio of women and male voters was 50 per cent each.
At Natipora 54 out of 108 votes polled during the first  one
hour, 54 were women, presiding officer told UNI adding there are 1057 total votes.
In the nearby polling booth 45-A, out of 112 votes polled during the first one hour, 56 were women. There are 692 total voters registered in the polling station.    However, in polling station number Natipora 53, out of 745 votes, 85 were polled till 0900 hrs. Of them 34 were  women.
Women voters could be seen marching towards polling stations in other parts of the city.    We are voting for development , they women said adding that they had come to votes early as they will get busy in their daily routine work at their houses when male will come to vote.
We are facing frequent and unscheduled power curtailments, there is unemployment and condition of roads are very bad, they alleged and said the prices of all essentials has gone up.
Some of the women raised the issue of women safety and said recent acid attack was yet another example of atrocities on women, which has witnessed increase in the Kashmir valley in the recent years.
