Women Empowerment Centre inaugurated

UDHAMPUR, June 10:  In an effort towards promoting socio economic development of women, the Rashtriya Rifles battalion at Kalakote under the aegis of Force Headquarter based at Reasi established a `Women Empowerment Centre’at a remote village Gahrat in Kalakote tehsil.
The centre was inaugurated in the presence of civil and Army dignitaries and will impart tailoring and embroidery skills to women from seven panchayats. The  battalion other than donating  sewing machines, basic furniture, raw material has also arranged for instructors. The `Tailoring Centre’ will not only contribute towards skill development but will also augment the household income of residents.
Speaking on the occasion, the army officials said that education and employment for the women is the need of the hour and the army will whole heartedly  promote similar efforts in the future.
A medical camp, counseling centre for registration of students for higher education in Universities outside the State, career management under Project Udaan and a stall especially to address the pension related grievances of the Ex servicemen were also organised on the event.
The highlight of the event was a skit on the theme of `Beti Padao Beti Bachao’ by Jan Jagran Manch, Kalakote.
