JAMMU, July 8: A woman trapped in the flash flood in river Tawi was rescued by the SDRF and police men near fourth bridge here this afternoon.
Official sources said that the middle-aged woman namely- Bago Begum, wife of Sain Mohd (Gujjar), resident of Karnaile Chak had gone to the river along with her cattle at around 9 am today. The cattle including a dozen buffaloes had been taken to the river for drinking water and bathing.
There was rain in upper reaches in Ramnagar, Chenani and Udhampur area during morning hours today. Due to sudden flash flood in the river, the water level started increasing. She could not return to the river bank in time and got trapped there. She rushed to the middle dry portion of the river bed along with her cattle.
The villagers and the family members of the woman rushed to the site after coming to know about the matter. They failed in their efforts to rescue woman. Then they conacted Police Control Room, Jammu and Belicharana and Bhagwati Nagar police. Later, the police established contact with SDRF authorities at Jammu.
After long wait for receding of water level in the river, at around 1.30 pm, the SDRF men and Police party led by SI Ranjit Singh from PP Beli Charana using a boat, rescued the woman trapped in flash flood. She was later handed over to the family.
