JAMMU, Jan 28: A 35-year-old woman, critically injured in Pakistani firing along the International Border (IB) in Kanachak recently, succumbed to her injuries today, raising to 14, the number of deaths due to cross-border shelling since January 18.
Bimla Devi of Kana Chak was critically injured in Pakistani shelling on January 22 and was undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College hospital here.
“She died this morning and after postmortem the body was handed over to her relatives for last rites,” sources said.
With the killing of Bimla Devi, death toll in Pakistan shelling and firing during past about 10 days, has gone up to 14 including eight civilians and six security personnel. Besides nearly 70 persons, mostly civilians, were injured.
Meanwhile, Pakistan army again violated ceasefire in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district tonight. Reports said an Army jawan was injured in the firing. The Indian side retaliated effectively.
Security forces remained on high alert all along the LoC and IB to give befitting reply to any provocation by Pakistani troops.
