JAMMU, Oct 6: Katra police today arrested a woman Special Police Officer (SPO) for indulging in sale of `frooties’ in holy town of Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi ji shrine.
SP Katra Naresh Singh said in its ongoing campaign against the sale of liquor in the holy town, Katra police today laid a naka near the town and arrested the female SPO when she was smuggling `frooties’ into the town for selling them at exorbitant rates to the customers.
Singh said police had specific information that the woman SPO was indulging in the sale of liquor in the holy town, based on which a naka was laid and she was arrested.
The arrested SPO has been identified as Darshana Devi wife of Pavitter Singh, a resident of Chintamani, Katra.
She has been arrested and a case registered against her.
Disciplinary action has also been initiated against the SPO for indulging in illegal activities.
Police party in the naka was led by SHO Katra Inspector Arvind Samyal under the supervision of Naresh Singh and SDPO Katra Naresh Sharma.
Katra police today also arrested one Harbans Singh son of Mohan Singh R/o Pabber Brahmans, Reasi along with 25 poly pouches of liquor. A case has been registered against him.
