JAMMU, July 22: A mentally unstable woman committed suicide by setting self on fire at her residence in Rattain area of Udhampur.
According to a police spokesperson, the woman identified as Makhnu Devi (35) wife of Bittu, a resident of Rattain (Udhampur), who was mentally disturbed after quite some time, set self on fire by pouring kerosene oil on her during the intervening night of July 21 and 22.
The seriously injured woman was rushed to district hospital Udhampur from where she was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where she expired this morning at about 7 am.
After conducting post mortem the dead body was handed over to its legal heirs for last rites. A case under relevant sections has been registered at police station Udhampur.
