Doda, May 27: A woman labourer was killed and 12 others injured on Tuesday after an under-construction culvert collapsed during slab pouring work near Ghill Kunan Road, around two kilometers from Gandoh sub-division in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, officials said.
The accident occurred while construction work was underway on the culvert, officials said, adding that the structure suddenly gave way during slab laying operations, trapping workers at the site.
The injured were immediately rescued and shifted for treatment.
Officials identified the deceased as Devi Kumari, 42, wife of Naresh Sahu and a resident of Chhattisgarh, who was declared brought dead.
Twelve injured labourers and workers were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Doda for treatment.
Those injured were identified as Kaushlya Devi, 32, daughter of Dalut Ram and a resident of Chhattisgarh; Tariq Hussain, 22, son of Fazal Hussain of Bhargi; Ravi Patil, 25, son of Pardesi Patil of Chhattisgarh; Manu Lal, 36, son of Brij Lal of Chhattisgarh; Naresh Kumar, 42, son of Daru Lal of Chhattisgarh; Safdar Ali, 21, son of Jamat Ali of Gandoh; Kaushliya Bi, 35, wife of Chaitram of Chhattisgarh; Daulat Yadu, 35, son of Saju Yadu of Chhattisgarh; Neera Sahu, 23, daughter of Daniesh Sahu of Chhattisgarh; Jamat Ali, 32, son of Hashim Din of Thathri; Mohan Yadu, 25, son of Saju Yadu of Chhattisgarh; and Mashoom Ali, 19, son of Jamat Ali of Thathri.
Officials said the condition of the injured was being monitored at GMC Doda.
The incident has raised questions over safety arrangements at the construction site, though authorities had not immediately disclosed the cause behind the collapse.
