Woman knocked to death by bus, people protest

JAMMU, Dec 6: A woman was knocked to death by a speedy and rashly driven bus near Bikram Chowk today evening.
As per police sources, a woman identified as Darshana Devi, wife of Nand Lal of Bikram Chowk District Jammu was knocked to death by a speedy and rashly driven bus near Bikram Chowk.
The body of the deceased lady has been shifted to mortuary of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the local people assembled at the accident site and held protest demanding immediate arrest of the driver. They also blocked the vehicular movement.
On getting information, senior police officers including SDPO South PK Mengi, SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Bharat Sharma and Incharge Police Post Nehru Market SI Rohit Gandhi rushed to the spot and pacified the protesting people by assuring them of taking strict action against the erring driver.
“Police officers informed the protesting people that the bus involved in the accident has been seized and driver will also be behind the bars soon”, police sources said.
On the assurance, the protesting people dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
However, a case under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar and investigation started.
