POONCH, June 27: An elderly woman was severely injured after she was ambushed by a bear at Dunugam in Barachar area of tehsil Mandi in Poonch district today.
Family members of the injured woman said that she was cutting grass near her house when suddenly a bear attacked and left her severely injured. She cried for help and the family members with lathis reached the spot and rescued her. The bear escaped to the nearby jungle. She was rushed to Sub District Hospital Mandi for treatment. It took about three hours on foot to the family to shift her to hospital as there is no road to the village.
The injured woman was identified as Majida Begum (65) wife of Ghulam Rasool resident of Barachar Dunugam in Mandi. Doctors said that she had multiple injuries and was referred to District Hospital, Poonch after providing preliminary treatment at Mandi hospital.
