Woman found hanging, family protests against in-laws

JAMMU, Jan 8: The parents and other relatives of a woman today held a protest at Mishriwala after she was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in her in-laws’ house in Mishriwala area.
According to police sources, the body of a young woman namely Seema Devi wife of Gurmeet Singh, resident of Bachyal area falling under the jurisdiction of police station Kanachak, was found hanging at her-in-laws’ residence at around 2 AM today. However, the police came to know the matter in the morning when the deceased’s parents informed them.
Sources said on getting information, the SHO Kanachak, Inspector Gurnam Choudhary send a police team on the spot but as the team reached quite late the angry parents of the deceased, who had already doubts over the sudden, mysterious death of their daughter, put the body of their daughter on Jammu-Akhnoor Road and held a strong protest against the deceased’s in-laws and casual role of the police.
The family was joined by their other relatives and neighbours. They blocked the road for about two hours and demanded a fair probe into the sudden and mysterious death of the woman. They also raised doubts over the role of concerned SHO in the case and demanded to keep him out of the probe.
On getting information, SP Rural, Dushyant Sharma along with SDPO Domana, Sandeep Gupta reached the spot and assured the agitating people of fair probe into the matter. On his assurance, the protestors lifted the blockade and dispersed.
The SP told Excelsior that inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC have been initiated in this connection at police station Kanachak. He said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the close supervision of SDPO Domana has been constituted to probe the case. The SIT comprises of Rohit Gupta, Senior PO (Saddar Court, Jammu), SI Mohd Bashir (Reader to SDPO Domana), SI Kulbir Singh and ASI Bashir Ahmed Trabi of police station Kanachak and SI Talib Hussain of police station Domana.
