JAMMU, Aug 31: A 63-year-old woman drowned in Ranbir Canal here at Muthi area of the District falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Domana.
Sita Devi, wife of Hukam Chand of Kishtwar, at present Muthi, slipped into Ranbir Canal around 8 am on Wednesday, police said.
To trace the woman, they said, teams of SDRF and JKP assisted by locals were pressed into service the same day but no breakthrough was achieved until last night.
“After hectic efforts, the body of the woman was fished out of the Canal around 1 Pm today,” said police.
While police have shifted the body of the woman to the mortuary of the Government Medical College for conducting the post-mortem inquest proceedings have been initiated to further probe the matter.
