Quarantined people try to run away, cane-charged

SRINAGAR, Apr 28: A 73-year old woman from Srinagar died today taking the Coronavirus death toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 8 while a Chemist and two hospital staffers were among 20 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 taking the Jammu and Kashmir tally to 565.
The woman from Rainawari area was admitted to Chest Diseases hospital in Srinagar and was also suffering from various ailments including diabetes and hypertension. She died today in the hospital and was buried in Rainawari under proper protocol. Her contacts have already been traced and are under quarantine.

Among them 20 who tested Coronavirus positive today, 10 were confirmed at Viral Diagnostic Laboratory of SKIMS Soura and include five from Baramulla, four from Shopian including one person from Kupwara district who was retested for Corona.
Ten other cases were confirmed at the COVID-19 testing laboratory at Chest Disease hospital Dalgate which include eight from Anantnag district and two from Pulwama.
Anantnag positive cases include 35-year-old pregnant woman from Pushroo village who has now been shifted to SKIMS Bemina for treatment.
The other cases include 9-year-old girl from Kutheir village, two men aged 60 and 27-years and a 35-year-old woman from Shangus. A 58-year-old man from worst affected Nowgam village of the district also tested positive today.
A 50-year-old X-ray technician of Anantnag and 38-year-old Nursing orderly of Nowgam, working at Sub-District Hospital Shangus tested positive today. The staff in contact with the duo have been moved to home quarantine for 14 days and their samples are being taken soon.
Shopian cases including a person who was re-tested are two women aged 18 and 65 years. Two women aged 28 and 65 years are from Heerpora village which is worst affected in Kashmir valley.
Baramulla cases include two brothers aged 7 and 14 years of Zandfaran Malpora. They were contacts of a policeman who tested positive last week. A 33-year-old man from Kantbagh and an 8-year-old from Kakerhama tested positive today. A 26-year-old policeman from Botengo Sopore also tested positive today and he is contact of a doctor from Government Medical College Hospital Baramulla who had tested Corona positive.
The administration had quarantined 54 patients who were examined by the doctor. All of them are under quarantine and have been tested.
And days after Pulwama was declared COVID-19 free by the administration, two people tested positive for the COVID-19. They include a 48-year-old medical shop owner from Kakapora who is also leading prayers in the local mosque. An 18-year-old man of Rahmoo village of the district with travel history of New Delhi tested positive. He had been moved to quarantine on April 14 soon after his arrival. Earlier, Pulwama had three COVID-19 positive cases and they recovered and the district was declared COVID-19 free.
A 65-year-old man from Gonipora Kupwara tested positive today. He is a contact of an earlier positive man and was already under quarantine. Administration is now tracing his primary contacts.
And Police today foiled an attempt to escape from quarantine centre from Government Degree College Anantnag. Over 100 people have been put under quarantine in the College.
Police canecharged them and they were brought back in which several of them were injured. These people alleged that they have been deprived of facilities at the Centre.
These people are mostly from Shangus area of Anantnag district. “What is our fault? We are being treated like animals. There is no facility for us and when we protested we were beaten,” they said.
Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Bashir Ahmad Dar, however, said that they are provided every facility and efforts are on to upgrade the facilities. He said that these people want to go home as they are mostly agriculturalist and want to work in the orchards and fields.
With these fresh COVID-19 positive cases, Bandipora now has 127 COVID-19 cases, followed by 86 in Srinagar, 72 in Baramulla, 72 Shopian, 62 Anantnag, 49 Kupwara, 15 Ganderbal, 14 Budgam, 6 Kulgam and 5 in Pulwama.
The COVID-19 positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir has now gone up to 565, 381 are active positive, 176 have recovered and one more COVID-19 patient died today at Chest Disease Hospital, Srinagar taking the death toll in J&K to 8.
There are 68262 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases under surveillance which include 6364 persons in-home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 255 in Hospital Quarantine, 381 in hospital isolation and 9082 under home surveillance. Besides, 52172 persons have completed their surveillance period.
So far 16, 619 people were tested today including 16054 as negative and 565 positive.
