Srinagar, June 26: A 25-year old pregnant lady died at Mother and Child Hospital (M&CH) at South Kashmir’s Anantnag district today due to alleged ‘negligence’ by the doctors on duty.
The family of the deceased said that a woman-who has been identified as Shobi Jan wife of Muhammad Hussain Bhat of Sarnal Anantnag-was admitted in the hospital on Tuesday. They alleged that not even a single doctor attended to her, leading to her death.
After the incident, the authorities ordered inquiries at four different levels to look into the circumstances. The police have also taken the cognizance of the incident on the complaint filed by the family and the investigation has been kick-started under 174 CrPc.
“The delivery was scheduled at 11 in the night, but no doctor turned up to see her and we were kept waiting,” the family members said.
They added that Shobi was taken into the theatre at 3 in the morning and no one was allowed to enter till 6 am.
“We came to know about her death when in the morning the police were informed and they reached the spot and we were led into the theatre, “they said.
The authorities have ordered an inquiry into the matter in order to look into the circumstances that led to her death, which the family said was due to total ‘negligence’.
Medical Superintendent M&CH Anantnag, Dr Mohammad Yousuf Zagoo told Excelsior that the incident is being inquired into at four levels, which includes M&CH Anantnag, CMO, Directorate and also Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar has ordered an inquiry into it. “The incident is being probed thoroughly,” he said.
“The patient was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday; it was her second delivery, but unfortunately she died while she was in labour room,” Dr Zagoo said while adding that the hospital administration is looking into the circumstances that led to her death.
“While her death is being probed at various other levels, we have also constituted a team of doctors who have been tasked to see what led to her death. The team has been asked to submit its report as soon as possible, which will be followed by the action,” he added.
After her death, the family staged massive protests against the doctors and demanded strict punishment against those who are involved. This is a murder and strict action shall be taken against the concerned doctors,” the family said.
