Woman, 2 others die of COVID; 108 fresh cases reported in J&K

14 Nuns among 28 test +ve in Leh

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Nov 15: Three persons died and 108 tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir while 28 fresh cases, 14 of them Nuns, were reported in Leh district in the Union Territory of Ladakh today.
One COVID casualty and 19 cases were registered in Jammu region while two fatalities and 89 new cases were recorded in Kashmir division.
A 72-year-old woman hailing from Gandhi Nagar Jammu succumbed to the virus and co-morbidities in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today taking COVID toll in the region to 2179 and Jammu district to 1148.
Corona toll in other districts include 237 in Rajouri, 152 in Kathua, 137 Udhampur, 133 Doda, 120 Samba, 98 Poonch, 67 Ramban, 44 Kishtwar and 43 in Reasi district.
Among 19 new cases, seven were reported in Jammu district, six in Reasi (all of whom were travelers who tested positive on their arrival at Katra Railway Station), four in Poonch and two in Doda district. In rest six districts, no cases were recorded.
Ten persons recovered from the virus.
Jammu region’s Corona count now stood at 1,24,629. Of them, 1,22,227 have recovered from the virus while there have been 2179 casualties and 223 active positive cases,
Twenty eight fresh COVID positive cases were today reported in the UT of Ladakh.
All of them were registered in Leh district while Kargil didn’t report any fresh cases.
Out of 28 new cases, 14 were Nuns from Temisgum in Leh. Their contact tracing is on for conducting COVID tests.
With this, number of active positive cases in Ladakh has gone up to 173—168 in Leh and five in Kargil district.
Ladakh now has 21176 Coronavirus cases. Among them, 20792 have been treated while there were 211 casualties including153 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, authorities in Jammu today announced the cancellation of the annual ‘Jhiri Mela’ at the Baba Jittoo temple due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but said devotees can offer prayers at the shrine with strict adherence to COVID-Appropriate Behaviour.
The nine-day-long mela (fair) is held during ‘Karthik Purnima’ in Jhiri village, 20 kms from Jammu, on the Jammu-Akhnoor Highway.
“Like previous year, Jhiri Mela stands cancelled in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, religious rituals like puja will take place as per tradition and devotees are also welcome but should follow the COVID-19 SOPs and guidelines strictly,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Marh, Nasir Ali said.
Meanwhile, there has been decline in the COVID-19 cases in Kashmir today as 89 tested positive while two persons succumbed to the virus.
With two more deaths in Kashmir today, the death toll in J&K has reached at 4,453.
Those who tested positive include 40 from Srinagar, 19 from Baramulla, 4 from Budgam, 6 from Kupwara, 4 from Anantnag, 4 from Bandipora, 11 from Ganderbal and 1 from Kulgam.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 209,659 including 206,091 recoveries and 2,274 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,517 including 1,294 from Kashmir division.
With 103 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 328,318 which is 98.21 percent of the total cases.
In the meantime, as per data, 67 percent deaths reported in Kashmir during last three months were unvaccinated, 22 percent were partially vaccinated while 11 percent deaths reported were fully vaccinated.
An official said that fully vaccinated people died due to complacency as they didn’t report to the hospital on time after infection.
