Woman, her 2 daughters get five years RI for kidnapping boy

THANE, Feb 13: A Thane court has awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment to a woman and her two daughters for kidnapping a four-year-old boy for ransom from Mira Road in the district in 2014.
Thane Additional Sessions Judge S C Khalipe, in an order passed last week, held Reemadevi Radhe Gupta (49) and her two daughters – Pinky Tulshi Gupta (30) and Kiran Radhe Gupta (23) – guilty under IPC Section 363 for kidnapping and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of them.
Pinky and Kiran worked as waitresses in a bar in Borivali, where the boy’s mother worked as a singer. She had been living separately from her husband, a diamond merchant.
Additional public prosecutor Vandana S Jadhav told the court that on the day of the incident on January 24, 2014, Pinky visited the complainant’s house along with her daughter.
Pinky’s daughter and the son of the complainant were sent to buy chocolates from a nearby shop. However, after some time, her daughter alone returned to the victim’s place.
Immediately afterwards, the complainant received a call from a man, who identified himself as Tinku, wherein he made a demand of Rs 26 lakh for the release of her son.
The prosecution told the court that the boy was later taken to the native place of Reemadevi in West Bengal.
Based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s mother, Mira Road police swung into action and finally rescued her son from a village in West Bengal on January 31, 2014.
Thereafter, the women were placed under arrest and tried in the case. (PTI)
