Woes of Ware House

Some time back in these columns we had scripted the story of unhygienic and crowded condition of Jammu Ware House which is the hub of Jammu business activity. We had specifically mentioned that acute shortage of space, dysfunctional sanitary system, faulty power supply, illegal encroachment by shopkeepers and forwarding agencies and many other ills had become the source of degradation of the War House. The Ware House was first created by former Chief Minister Bakhshi Ghulam Muhammad. Later on very few rather negligible amenities were added to it to make it really functional. At the same time since trade and commerce grew manifold business activity increased. But the concerned Departments did not keep pace with the increased commercial activities and Ware House shopkeepers regularly brought complains to the notice of the authorities. The recent visit of the Vice Chairman of Jammu Corporation along with a large body of concerned high officials in different wings and on spot inspection and interaction with the shopkeepers at Ware House must result in Department making a big move away from lethargy and indifference towards improvement of the Ware House. This will convince the people that the Government means business. A beginning has to be made to modernize the complex.
