JAMMU, Aug 21: All J&K Transporters Welfare Association chairman T S Wazir has claimed that with the situation emerged after abrogation of Article 370 in the Jammu and Kashmir, the transporters are facing huge losses.
In an emergency meeting of all the transporters of Jammu providence held under the chairmanship of TS Wazir, the presidents/representatives of all transport unions including buses, trucks, oil tankers, mini-buses/ Matadors, Sumos/ Taxies Auto-rikshwas unions expressed their serious concern over the situation arisen, post abrogation of Article 370 in the J&K and massive losses being suffered by the transporters and starvation being faced by many operators.
The transporters expressed great resentment towards the attitude of State/Central Government. They said the State is already passing through crucial stage due to militancy since long and now with the current situation and bandhs, the transporters are facing huge losses.
The Government is going to impose 9 % and 10 % one-time tax on the new vehicles from Sept 2, 2019, it would again exert heavy burden on the general public and transporters. This tax is huge as compared to neighbouring states.
The Association urged upon the Governor SP Malik and the Advisor K Skandan to intervene into the matter and come to the rescue of the transporters and also review their decision to impose 9-10 % tax on the new vehicles. They said already massive hike has been imposed on insurance of the vehicles by the Union Government and that too was made mandatory for 3 years. Such decisions would lead to recession and closing down of many automobile companies. Many people would lose their jobs. They said transporters were trying to avoid path of confrontation and if they were forced to go for the same, they would not hesitate.
