JAMMU, Apr 6: Former J&K Chief Minister and patron of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that wind of change is blowing in the country and the change is imminent even in the Jammu and Kashmir in the next Assembly elections.
Addressing a large public rally in support of Party candidate from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat Yash Paul Sharma at Parade Ground here amidst rain and thunder storm today, Mufti Sayeed said that a strong wave of change was visible all around in the State as well as in the country. “The change is imminent and no one can deny this fact. The people are not going to spare any more and they will certainly throw the parties out which stood exposed for their tall and hollow slogans”, Mufti asserted.
Launching scathing attack on National Conference, Mufti Sayeed said due to non-performance, the Omar Abdullah led ‘coalition’ has lost its credibility. It has shattered the faith of the people as the promises made with public during previous elections were not fulfilled by the party. The NC led coalition is directionless and floating like unmanned ship. It stood exposed in view of non-governance and worst ever performance. The people are not going to spare them in these elections, he added.
Mufti said it was only during PDP led regime that residents of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh witnessed the effective governance in place as the people were made part of the decision making process. He reminded that PDP led Government had laid foundation of balanced and equitable development in J&K.
“The PDP led regime has set an example of good governance and it carved out a path of equitable development in the State”, Mufti said and sought support of Jammuites to implement visionary policies of the PDP.
He said that PDP wants to change destiny of the people of J&K and to set up a pro-people, corruption free transparent and accountable system. “It is my desire to make Jammu and Kashmir peaceful State wherein every individual will get equal opportunities of growth and development”, he said.
Mufti reminded that during his short tenure in the Government, PDP led regime had taken every possible effort to solve problems of the people”, he said and added that initiatives taken by the PDP led regime had yielded very encouraging results because faith of the people in the democratic institutions was restored and the commoner got the taste of good governance.
While highlighting achievements of his Government, Mufti reminded the gathering that after formation of PDP led Government various projects were started for the development of Jammu region. He especially mentioned that a comprehensive project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was exclusively implemented in Jammu to provide civic amenities to the people. “It was only during PDP led regime that Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions were equally empowered and all regions were given equal share in development”, he added.
Dubbing National Conference-Congress coalition as opportunist alliance, Mufti said that both the parties have entered into alliance without any programme and policies. “The only aim of this alliance is to enjoy absolute power without caring for the wishes and aspirations of the people”, he said and added that the noticeable achievement of NC-Congress during the last five and half years is legalization of corruption. “It is very unfortunate that during the last five and half years J&K has earned the dubious distinction of being the most corrupt State where corruption has been sneaked from top to bottom”, he said.
Taking a dig at coalition partners for indulging into “shadow boxing”, Mufti said that this regime has brazenly bulldozed democratic institutions. He mentioned towards failure of the coalition to conduct Urban Local Bodies elections. He asserted that the present coalition has to go because this regime has lost faith and credibility. “Change is imminent in Jammu and Kashmir because people have already decided to get rid from this corrupt and inept dispensation”, he maintained.
The PDP patron reminded the gathering that during his tenure, he tried to restore historical importance of Jammu city. He mentioned about various developmental and beautification projects started especially for Jammu city during his regime.
Introducing his party candidate Yash Pal Sharma, who is contesting from Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat, Mufti said that Mr Sharma is a symbol of brotherhood and communal harmony. He reiterated his demand of one time settlement of the problems of refugees.
Senior party leaders Rangil Singh, T S Bajwa, Ved Mahajan, Shanti Devi, Hamid Choudhary, Dhaman Bhasin, Maj Gen (Retd) R S Jamwal, Deepender Kour, Nizamudin Khatana, Fallail Singh, Hussain Ali Waffa, Rashid Malik, Jagjit Singh Jagga, R K Bali, Th Suram Singh, Pawan Dev Singh, Rajinder Singh Manhas, Surjeet Kour, Sushila Jamwal, Ramesh Koul, Bharat Choudhary, Suresh Sharma, Rafiq Choudhary, Capt Anil Gour, were also present on the occasion.
