Will raise voice of weaker sections in Parliament if opportunity given: Manhotra

JAMMU, Apr 19: National president of National Bahujan Party (NBP), K K Manhotra today said that his party has fielded 40 candidates all over the country including one in Jammu and they are committed to raise the voice of weaker and neglected sections of the society in the Parliament, if they win.
Interacting with media persons today, Manhotra, who was here to review preparation of the party, revealed that Mohammad Abdullah Chatwal has been announced as party candidate from Baramullah Lok Sabha seat.
Pointing towards prevailing situation in the country, Manhotra said that nation is heading towards change of guard which is healthy sign of democracy.
Regarding future of his party, Manhotra said that NBP is hopeful of winning some seats as party has fielded credible and trusted candidates, who have potential to effectively highlight peoples’ issue in the Parliament, on some important seats.
Highlighting demands of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in Jammu and Kashmir, Manhotra demanded that like other parts of the country, OBCs should be given reservation of 27 percent as per the recommendation of Mandal Commission report. He further demanded that like other parts of the country, Jats should be included in the list of OBCs.
NBP president further demanded that instead of OSC certificate, OBCs should be issued OBC certificate so that they can apply for jobs in Central Government departments.
He also demanded the State Government to hike income slab of OBCs from existing Rs 4.5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for grant of scholarship.
Manhotra expressed hope that new Government at the Centre would solve the issue of Pakistani refugees who have been struggling to get citizenship rights in Jammu and Kashmir.
Others present in the press conference were Ex-MLC and State president of NBP, CL Dhiman.
