SRINAGAR, Nov 28:  The MBBS students studying at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar have decided to boycott their classes till the twelve “tainted” students, who have made their way into the final MBBS list in 2012 by allegedly buying papers from former Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) chairman Mushtaq Ahmad Peer, were not expelled from the college.
Hundreds of students of Government Medical College (GMC) staged protests inside its campus demanding expulsion of those students.
“The 12 students who have bribed the former BOPEE chairman for their entry into the prestigious and respectable medical colleges by buying entrance papers should be expelled. They have brought a shame and disrespect to our profession,” said Faizan Younis, president of students’ body in GMC.
The BOPEE scam hit headlines after former chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer was arrested by Police’s Crime Branch in connection with the alleged question paper scam.
“We will boycott our classes from today till these fake students are not expelled. They have admitted their fake selection. Why can’t the authorities expel them,” said the agitating students.
The students said 2012 batch has around 100 students and questioned why their credibility be dented for just twelve students.
“This is simply outrageous and atrocious. No, we can’t live with bad name. Tainted students must leave GMC,” said Sumaya.
Principal GMC, Dr. Rafi Pampori said the students concern was genuine as public sees them with suspicion, and their demands and sentiments would be conveyed to the Government.
