LEH, Feb 17: Wildlife Department staff nabbed two persons moving suspiciously with .22 rifle with telescope in Leh yesterday evening.
According to the Wildlife Department staff there were four persons moving suspiciously with intention to poach wildlife around Choglamsar carrying .22 Rifle with Telescope.
On seeing the Wildlife staff two persons reportedly ran away while the staff chased the other two travelling in a Santro Car JK04B-0004 and managed to nab them near Choglamsar bridge. The staff alleged that they had intention to poach Wildlife near Sindhu Ghat where Wildlife comes down for water. They immediately informed the police and both persons were taken to Police Station for questioning. Vehicle, riffle and telescope were taken under police custody immediately for examining it.
Today Wildlife Department formally lodged a police complaint and on the basis of that Police started investigation in the matter to find out the facts.
While addressing a press conference at Press Club Leh today, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), vice president, PT Kunzang appealed the Administration to carryout throughout investigation to look into the matter which is of serious nature to find out the truth behind it. He alleged that Ladakh is a peaceful area so what was the need of carrying rifle and what was their intension of travelling in a group of four?
He added that there is no culture of carrying guns openly even if one holds a license to carry the gun and demanded that such act of carrying gun openly can disturb the peace and tranquility.
Forester Tsering Tashi informed media that Department received information from their informer informing that four persons intending to poach Wildlife near Sindhu Ghat so they immediately swung into action and managed to nab two persons with rifle and Telescope. He also added that two persons ran away after seeing the Wildlife staff.
