POONCH, July 14: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Poonch Police along with CRPF today carried out an operation and destroyed wild cannabis in Gursai, Mendhar and Loran area of Poonch district.
Official sources said that a team of cops from Police Station Gursai and Mendhar led by SHOs and concerned CRPF officer, carried out special drive to destroy wild cannabis in different area of Mendhar Sub Division.
The Police party Loran also under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Poonch Afarat Hussain and Additional Superintendent of Police Poonch Mushim Ahmed and under overall directions of SSP Poonch Vinay Kumar carried out a derive in Loran for destroying the wild cannabis plants around the periphery of bus stand Loran. The wild cannabis plants in about one kanal of land was destroyed during the derive.
So far 8 kanals of land has been cleared from wild cannabis and this drive is part of an ongoing effort under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Drugs (NDPS) Act to combat the illegal cultivation of cannabis and poppy and such drives will continue in future also till the menace is completely rooted out from the society, a police spokesman said.
