Meanwhile, Army today said that security forces averted a major militant attack by detecting a 30 kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Tengpora Bund in Srinagar.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman Colonel Emron Musavi said that security forces averted a major militant attack after an explosive detection dog detected a 30 kg power IED at Tengpora Bund in Srinagar.
“Based on the specific inputs, a search operation was launched by Ganderbal based Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, JKP and CRPF in general area Tengpora. Search operation led to recovery of an IED weighing 30 Kgs near Tengpora Bund which is just 700 meters away from National Highway. The IED was safely destroyed in-situ by Army Bomb Squad. The timely recovery thwarted the design of militants to destabilize the security situation in the Valley,” the Defence spokesman said, adding that the IED was detected by the explosive detection dog and thereby a major militant attack was foiled.
Meanwhile, Police in Anantnag today prevented 14 boys from joining militancy and handed them over to their parents after counselling.
The youth were counselled and handed over to their parents at District Police Office Anantnag.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that 14 boys in the age group of 18-22 were in constant touch with various militant organizations over social media and also being lured by militants based in Pakistan to get recruited.
During the counselling session, SSP Anantnag Imtiyaz Hussain advised the parents to take proper care of their wards and keep a watch upon their activities, actions and behaviour.
He further said that parents should come forward and report any such activity of their wards so that they are mainstreamed through counselling by experts. The boys were properly counselled by Anantnag Police in presence of their parents and later handed over to their parents.
“It’s pertinent to mention here that many counselling sessions were held by police officers for the past many days with these vulnerable youth belonging to various areas of Anantnag district”, police said.
