Why should train services be disrupted ?

The cause or the reason may be of paramount importance, the question is as to why should train services be targeted and disrupted for days together? What way is it to agitate and press the Government to concede to certain demands from section of farmers from two or three states when people are extremely hard pressed due to COVID-19 pandemic? It is only to visualise and deeply understand as to how much of loss to national wealth was caused due to lockdown , suspension of almost all economic activities, no rail or air traffic and the like and how long shall we have to bear its aftermaths. We do not outright question the veracity of the demands from some farmers but giving preference to agitations, stopping train services which are otherwise running in barest minimum numbers, looks totally unacceptable. The immediate fallout of this agitation is the shortage of petrol and diesel in Jammu and Kashmir as also in Ladakhand should this disruption of rail services continue for more days, the shortage was likely to turn into a crisis with imaginable hardships to people. Reports that most of the petrol pumps have gone dry in Udhampur and parts of Kashmir must be taken seriously.
Political parties which are opposed to the Farm Reform Laws and who are reportedly spearheading these agitations by interpreting the fallout of these laws as per their version, must look into the hardships of the people who have to face the double edged sword of the effects of the agitation – that of no petrol and diesel for their vehicles and price rise of essential goods and their shortage. We are already experiencing an unspecific price rise in vegetables and fruits while Government is seen nowhere taking stock of the situation and taking appropriate steps to contain uncalled for price rise of goods of daily use. Long queues of vehicles were witnessed at various petrol pumps especially at Udhampur, Kud, Ramban, Poonch, Kathua and other parts of Jammu region. Similar reports are from various parts of Srinagar , Anantnag, Patan and Sopore areas desperately wanting to buy fuel for their vehicles. Despite oil companies diverting the tankers to other routes it is felt that normal supplies have not taken place so far.
Latest reports from the main oil depot near Jammu Railway Station are that it has turned nearly dry affecting supplies to tankers for Kashmir and parts of Jammu. The authorities need to monitor the situation and ensure that most of the gasoline outlets remained operating as any deepening of the problem of non availability of petroleum products may take the form of a crisis which will take weeks together to get back to normalcy. Pertinent to mention that the Government must be maintaining a specific quantum of stocks in oil depots to meet eventualities like the one currently arisen and if it is so, then the petrol pumps should have not started feeling shortages of incoming supplies for their retail sale requirements.
The Central Government feeling that the Farm Laws were in favour of the farmers must go in for an aggressive awareness campaign so that the farming community comes to know about the advantages of the reforms. Once convinced , they can withdraw their agitation at least to the extent of freeing Railway tracks. Alternative solution is conceding some demands based on and as a result of consultations and sharing of apprehensions , removing disbeliefs and misgivings. The impasse needs to be resolved at an early date instead of allowing it to wane and tire away on its own as any prolonged agitation in the present form was likely to cause tremendous hardships to the common people who are otherwise already greatly troubled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
