Why Congress silent over Guru: Jitendra

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Mar 6: “In the midst of Budget Session of State Legislative Assembly, when the two Kashmir-centric political parties National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are engaged in a fierce war of competitive upmanship over Afzal Guru, why is the Congress Party silent even though it is a ruling coalition partner in the Government?” This question was raised by BJP chief spokesperson & National executive member Dr. Jitendra Singh, while referring to the non-committal stand on the issue adopted by the Pradesh Congress unit inside and outside the Legislature.
Dr. Jitendra Singh accused the Congress party of being involved in a “conspiracy of silence” with NC on the Afzal Guru issue with the sole agenda of continuing in power. He said the Congress party’s answerability becomes all the more serious because it is in power, both at the Centre as well as the State, and it claims to be a nationalist secular party.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said the onus is now on the Congress-led UPA Government and the Union Home Minister to call the bluff of the NC leadership and the Chief Minister who claim that they were not properly informed about the hanging of Afzal Guru. He also asked the Congress party leadership to explain whether it approves of the NC leaders including the Chief Minister referring to Afzal Guru as Guruji or Guru Saheb.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said the Congress party’s silence has sent out a very dangerous message that the party is under clandestine directions from 10- Janpath to ensure continuance of Omar-led Government in J&K even if it is at the cost of national interest. He reminded the central leadership that in 1953, the then Sheikh Abdullah Government had also sent out similar anti-India signals but the Centre had taken a very serious view of it. It has become a mockery that the ruling party state functionaries are openly talking of plebiscite and are not questioned for it, he added.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that if the NC-led Government is genuinely sympathetic to Afzal Guru, then its Ministers should honourably quit instead of taking the benefit of office held by them under oath of Indian Constitution because otherwise they are being dishonest to the very people of Kashmir valley whose goodwill they seek to gain by using the name of Afzal Guru.
