Wheat rises on tight supply

NEW DELHI, Jan 7: Wheat prices firmed up by Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on tight stocks position on fall in supplies from producing regions against increased offtake by flour mills.
However, rice basmati slide on muted demand.
Traders said tight stocks position on fall in supplies from producing regions against increased offtake by flour mills mainly led to the rise in wheat prices.
In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1,970-1,980 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by Rs 35 to Rs 2,000-2,015 per 90 kg.
Atta flour mills also enquired higher at Rs 1,150-1,160 from previous level of Rs 1,100-1,115 per 50 kg.
On the other hand, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety declined by Rs 100 each to Rs 6,400-6,500 and Rs 4,950-6,100 per quintal.
