SRINAGAR:Wet weather is prdicted on Eid-ul-Fitr in the Kashmir valley, where the mercury remained below normal though rain has finally stopped during the past 24 hours.
People woke up to yet another cloudy and cold morning though sun made a brief appearance in the valley, Eid shoppers are out making purchases of cloths, shoes and essentials, particularly confectionery items.
A Met department spokesperson said here today that there could be scattered rain or thundershowers on Eid-ul-Fitr in the Kashmir valley.
He said isolated rain could occur during the next 48 hours followed by scattered rain four days in the valley, where people are observing Ramdan fast.
There could be isolated, widespread and fairly widespread rain during the next six days in Jammu region, he said adding the weather will remain dry during the next 48 hours in Ladakh region. Summer capital, Srinagar, continued to witness below normal temperature though weather remain mainly dry since yesterday.
He said the maximum temperature in the city yesterday was 22.9 degrees Celsius, still eight notches below normal, while the minimum temperature was two degree below normal. The Spokesperson said there is possibility of light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 25 degrees and 19 degrees respectively in the city tomorrow.
Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir was the only place in the valley where the minimum temperature was above normal. Against yesterday’s minimum temperature of 12.2 degrees, it was 14.2 degrees, two degrees above normal at Pahalgam, base camp of Amarnath pilgrimage going on since July 2.
At world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, the minimum temperature witnessed a drop of about four notches. Against yesterday’s 13.5 degrees, it was 9.8 degrees, two degrees below normal. Qazigund recorded 15.7 degree, about a notch below normal and Kokernag 14.4 degree again two degrees below normal minimum temperature.
There was almost no change in the minimum temperature at Leh where it was 12.4 degrees while at Kargil it was 13.2 degrees against yesterdays 12.9 degrees, he said. He said there is possibility of light rain and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 25 degrees and 13 degrees respectively at Leh during the next 24 hours.
At Jammu there is also possibility of light rain or thundershowers during the next 24 and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 33 degrees and 25 degrees respectively. (AGENCIES)
