JAMMU, Jan 3: Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar today maintained that welfare of specially abled students is a top priority of the university.
The VC said this while interacting with members of the visiting NGO “Shruti”- an association for deaf in Jammu, comprising of Sukanya Bhan, a multimedia Journalist based out of Delhi, who specialises in disability etiquettes and students with disability along with Kamal Nain Bhan, President of the NGO . While interacting, the NGO functionaries discussed in detail about the activities of their association and how JU and Shruti can join hands and collaboratively conduct a workshops/seminars/orientation programmes on disability etiquettes.
During the course of the meeting it was also resolved to chalk out a road map for upgradation of the facilities for specially abled students. Prof Dhar on the occasion dwelt in detail about the initiatives taken by the University of Jammu to ensure about the necessary infrastructure and facilities created for smooth entry for specially abled persons in major premises of the University. Prof Dhar issued directions to constitute a high level committee comprising of senior faculty members, experts from the concerned area for periodic review and updation of the facilities and the processes for the specially abled persons. He further informed that JU is in the process of upgradation of the university website that will also cater to the needs of the specially abled students.
It is pertinent to mention here that University has built ramps in all major building of the University and is also installing lifts in those buildings where f ramp is not possible.
Among others, Ranjeet Kalra, Teaching faculty and Dr Vinay Thusoo, Official Spokesperson of the University, were also present on the occasion.
